College hosts St Alban's to derby day at Harwin Road

ST CHARLES COLLEGE hosted St Alban's College from Pretoria to a derby day - reciprocation for the wonderful day spent in Pretoria last year. It's the first time that St Alban's have visited us and, judging by all the genuine expressions of friendship and enjoyment, it is likely to become a regular event. Hockey was on the Saints hockey turf with a full round of games played during the morning. Results are on the Results page of this web site.

Electronic scoreboards

Important letter from Mr Mark Hulett

Main sponsor's name goes here on board

Dear Fellow Parents,

The cricket First XI parents have decided, together with the Grounds Committee, to upgrade our magnificent School oval.

Phase one of this project was to provide pickets to surround the oval and thanks to the wonderful generosity of Mr Rob Coetzee (son Byron) and Mr Seppe Fardella (sons Matteo and Luca) this project is nearing completion. This project alone has a value of well over R20 000.

The second project is to upgrade our very dilapidated score board - I have included a picture of the score board we envisage at its completion. Our goal is to have it ready for the Oppenheimer/Michaelmas Cricket Week in September. This project, plus the construction of a scoreboard for the Rugby/Soccer Harwin field will amount to around R75 000.

So far we have had the following donations and contributions:
SMG Pietermaritzburg Stephen Searle (Old Boy): son Sean, Grade 11,
Cameron and Linda Mitchell: son Travis, Grade 9,
Mark Hulett donated all the metal structures for the roof and scoreboard manufacture: son Matthew, Grade 12,
Shaun Quin (Old Boy) donated use of his building crew: son Nicholas, Grade 10.
First XI parents have pledged money towards the project.

In terms of real cash and cost savings amounts to approximately R34 000 which, without any fuss has got us nearly half way to our goal. There will be a plaque attached to both score boards on Harwin and the oval with the names of any company, family or individual who donates an amount of R1500 or more to this project.

Please send donations to St Charles College Account Reference: Oval Upgrade. As this is a capital project for the College you will be entitled to a Section 18(A) tax certificate from the College - please liaise with the College accounts administration staff in this regard.

As a parent my challenge to us all is to raise enough money to upgrade all the scoreboards on our beautiful campus.

Kind regards,

Mark Hulett

Above 1, 2, 3. Justin Smit let us have the photos above of the mini-rugby festival held on Harwin Field this afternoon.

Below 3. William Squires' famous last words...
Whilst it was pretty obvious what he was getting himself into, it wasn't quite as bad for William Squires as it may have seemed - he even appeared to stay on his feet. Click on the Webmaster link at the base of the page and let us know what you think he was saying in Photo 3. Don't forget to add in your name. The best entries will be published here.
